Like my ex boss used to say, "you cannot teach an old dog new tricks but the problem is there is lots of new tricks out there!"
I always try to learn new stuff so at least I won't feel so left out in the Gen Y, so year back bought myself a PDA _ Palm Vx, not long after that changed to Ipaq 3850, and last year changed again to my HP rx 3715. Now i use it to save all my contacts, appointments, to do list, tasks, scanned documents, photos, video clips, mp3 etc. I also use it as my alarm, remote control, dictionary, calculator, navigational tool etc
Tell me what gizmo you have. By the way the IT show is coming to town, details are

ya, true also
Now back to the tech talk, for those who own a PDA, like this HP rx3715 which I am using right now, 400Mhz, with BT capability
Do you know that you can easily make your PDA into a naviagational tool that tells you where you are and how to get from Point A to Point B?
All you need is this GPS receiver, I am using Rikaline 6033. My total investment less than $700!
Those interested let me know, I have also attached some screenshot of the mapping software that you can use.

Can read it up here, http://asia.cnet.com/reviews/handhelds/0,39001708,39097160p,00.htm
read up the review, as well as user opinion, like Atom, it has its fair share of complain, not for me due to its small screen. OS WM 05 also has its problem. But then again, new model/OS always have faced the same problem.
I am looking at the 818pro .. good or just so so. ;)

Parrot Lets Fly With Bluetooth Speakers & Frames
Whatever my gripes about Bluetooth it does inspire some pretty fantastic gadgets and few make them cooler than Parrot. In its latest announcement the company famous for its Bluetooth car kits has produced two items I definitely want in my living room.
http://www.trustedreviews.com/images/article/inline/2678-speakers.jpg
The first finally brings one of the great IT urban legends to be: the wireless speaker set. In an example of stunningly literal naming Parrot has called its take the ‘SOUND SYSTEM’. The capitals are appropriate too because this Bluetooth 2.0 equipped stereo set provides 2x 60W output with integrated Class-D digital amplifiers.
It is fully compatible with any Bluetooth device be it a mobile phone, PDA, MP3 player, PC or notebook and an analogue input also means it can be plugged into any traditional music source. Being Bluetooth of course, the speakers must be situated within 10-15m of the device they are streaming from (depending on walls) but otherwise a fantasy of mine has just come true.
The SOUND SYSTEM will retail for a not-insubstantial-but-could’ve-been-worse £244.99 when it lands on shelves this summer. I suggest all potential buyers play havoc with demo units by pairing up their mobile phones as they walk by.
http://www.trustedreviews.com/images/article/inline/2678-frame.jpg
Second in the lust list is an innovation that will have printer manufacturers sweating like a Microsoft exec in a Google board meeting. The Parrot PHOTO VIEWER (yes, caps overload again) is a picture frame with a 73.5 x 53.5mm, 320 x 234 resolution, 262k colour TFT and inbuilt Bluetooth 1.2. It can receive jpegs of up to 7m pixels from any Bluetooth enabled device and stores them on its 32MB of internal memory.
An automatic portrait a landscape sensor orientates the snap and resizes it while there are also fixed and slideshow display functions. A light sensor shuts off the picture frame when it is in the dark. Leather or white leaded oak frames will be available at release this summer with others to follow. The RRP is a little hefty at £156.99 but I can only see massive potential for future generations of this product.
Image the possibilities: interlinked frames around your home of various sizes with different picture profiles depending on who visits and the ability to instantly put digital photographs up around your home. No custom frame building required, no professional fitting, no photo developing or home printing. You gotta love the 21st Century.

we have checked with Fuji Xerox, it seems that this printer uses GDI format and cannot be used to network  so know I need to connect the printer to my PC, and my PC will connect with my laptop thru wifi, that way if the PC is on, my laptop also can use the printer to print, basically the connection is now in series rather than parallel so to speak. My print server is now useless might use it at home instead until such time that she decides to get another printer when her office expanded.

Dopod has just launched the S300, code-named HTC StarTrek, over in Taiwan. This cool looking device is the first clamshell Smartphone from HTC and seems to be inspired by the Motorola RAZR. It runs on Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphone Edition and is the slimmest Smartphone to date at only 15.8mm thick. Other specifications include a TI OMAP 850 processor running at 200MHz, a 2.2" QVGA screen, a 1.3MP camera, 64MB RAM, 64MB ROM, Bluetooth 1.2, a microSD slot and a 750mAh battery. With such an attractive form factor, will this device sell like hot cakes when it arrives in Singapore?

This new PDA-phone should hit Singapore around the third quarter of 2006 with an estimated street price of over S$1,200. The upcoming P525 PDA-phone comes with built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth as well as supporting Skype telephony, which would make this one of the most versatile phones when it hits the market in the second-half of 2006.

SEOUL : South Korea's Samsung Electronics said Monday it had developed the world's slimmest mobile phone.
The SGH-X820 model measures 6.9 millimeters (0.28 inches) thick and carries a built-in two-megapixel camera while functioning as an MP3 player as well, Samsung Electronics said in a statement.
"The Samsung 'ultra-slim phone' has set a record in the mobile handset history by breaking the wall of 7-millimeter thickness for the first time in the world," the company said in a statement.
The bar-type model will be showcased at an information and technology communications fair this week in Russia, called Sviaz Expocomm 2006, it said.
The new mobile handsets are scheduled to hit the shelves in Europe this month and in China in June, but pricing details have yet to be disclosed, according to Samsung officials.
Samsung has been slimming down its handsets after its US rival Motorola's success in marketing its popular Razr models. - AFP /dt

Samsung’s new X820 -Powerful Features and Quality at only 6.9mm
SEOUL, KOREA, - May 9, 2006 - Samsung unveiled the first in the upcoming series of Samsung’s ultra slim line-ups. The Samsung X820, which will be displayed for the first time at the Sviaz ExpoComm 2006, boasts the world’s thinnest profile of only 6.9 mm. Also on display will be Samsung’s D900, the world’s slimmest slider with the depth of only 13mm.
“Samsung will continue its stride in uniting people together. Ergonomically designed to become one with the user, Samsung's slim phones deliver the perfect harmony of comfort, simplicity, and sophistication,” said Kitae Lee, president of Samsung’s Telecommunication Network Business. “It is human nature for people to communicate with others. Samsung's ultra slim phones are dedicated in bringing people together. With its exceptional design and thinness, the X820 will become one with the user, one with others, and one with the world.”
Samsung’s growing portfolio of ultra-slim phones is part of the company’s aggressive global strategy in the slim phone category, demonstrating Samsung’s promptness to recognize and acts on consumer demands. Samsung truly delivers smaller and thinner mobile phones without compromising reliability or premium multimedia capabilities.
Samsung’s first experience with slim mobiles with advanced features started in 2001 with the introduction of SPH-N2001, the company’s first 9.8mm mobile phone. Samsung will continue to reveal slim mobiles in various form factors and features to the world.
Samsung X820 - World’s Slimmest Phone
Samsung’s groundbreaking X820 expresses Samsung’s devotion to creating the slimmest product for the market today. Weighing only 66 grams with slender 6.9mm thinness, the lightweight X820 is today’s modern method to stay connected. The X820 balances slim elegance with a functional keypad and finishes with a beautifully beveled cut for a natural grip. The fiberglass-infused plastic is used to increase extraordinary durability while keeping it lightweight. The X820 is the true complement to today’s active consumers as it becomes one with the users in their wallets, shirt pockets, or a pair of jeans for mobility in style.
Underneath its protective outer shell, the X820’s a wealth of features are compressed into the 6.9mm thinness using the Smart Surface Mounting Technology (SSMT). Capture those bright smiles and specials moments using the 2 megapixel camera or pull of a great presentation with the document viewer and TV-output function. Maximize the visual experience with the horizontal widescreen and navigate all of these features and more with a simple and user-friendly interface.
With a variety of color ways in the making, the X820 will first hit the Russian market next month, followed by other European markets.
Samsung D900 - World’s Slimmest Slider
Samsung’s SGH-D900 offers the latest in multimedia technology with premium slide-up design for business professionals. The 13mm slide-up is the thinnest slider ever designed. It also comes with a powerful 3.13 megapixel camera, starting the 3 megapixel camera phone trend for the European mobile market this year. The SGH-D900 also includes business features such as document viewer, TV-output function, and also supports Bluetooth stereo headset (A2DP) function to enhance users’multimedia experience.
The D900 also boasts large, vivid 262K color screens, ideal for watching streaming videos or viewing the phone’s photo book. Also, an external microSDTM slot allows for additional storage.
Other products announced earlier this year that are for display at Sviaz Expo Comm include the credit-card sized SGH-P300 phone, which measures 8.9 mm and comes packed with a 1.3 megapixel camera, music player and advanced video recording capabilities. Samsung’s SGH-Z150 is the world’s thinnest 3G phone, and the SGH-D800 and SCH-Z540 are both slim, elegantly design multimedia phones.

Pretec Introduces 16GB USB Thumb Drive
Pretec has released its 16GB USB Flash Drive, which the company says is the highest capacity thumb drive in the world - even though Samsung has made a similar announcement a day before.
The 16GB (gigabytes) capacity is nearly the equivalent to 4 DVDs or 23 compact discs, which can store around 5400 photos in regular size or more than 4000 MP3 songs.
Pretec 16GB i-Disk II offers the users large space to manage the data for backup, storage, and file sharing. The new drive comes with access speed up to 25MB/sec and extra features providing data security and convenience such as password protection, data encryption, write protection, and/or auto-execute pre-defined or user-defined files.
With the same advanced flash memory packaging technology of Pretec 16GB i-Disk II, Pretec also announced an increased capacity to 8GB for i-Disk Touch, a USB Flash Drive with built-in fingerprint security; and i-Disk Connect+, a multi-function USB Flash Drive with fingerprint security and built-in hub for endless capacity and function expansion.
In addition, the amazing i-Disk Bulletproof (water, fire and bullet proof USB Flash Drive) capacity is now increased to 4GB.
Pretec 16GB i-Disk II is sampling now with mass production scheduled at Q4/2006.

Dear Technical Support,
18 months ago, I upgraded to Girlfriend 1.0 from DrinkingMates 4.2, which I had used for years without any trouble. However, there are apparently conflicts between these two products and the only solution was to try and run Girlfriend 1.0 with the sound turned off. To make matters worse, Girlfriend 1.0 is incompatible with several other applications, such as LadsNightOut 3.1, Football 4.5, and Playboy 6.9.
Successive versions of GirlFriend proved no better. I tried a shareware program, Slapper 2.1, but it had many bugs and left a virus in my system, forcing me to shut down completely for several weeks.
Eventually, I tried to run Girlfriend 1.2 and Girlfriend 1.0 at the same time, only to discover that when these two systems detected each other they caused severe damage to my hardware.
I eventually upgraded to Fianceeé 1.0, only to discover that this product soon had to be upgraded further to Wife 1.0. While Wife 1.0 tends to use up all my available resources, it does come bundled with FreeSexPlus and Cleanhouse2005.
Shortly after this upgrade, however, I found that Wife 1.0 could be very unstable and costly to run. Any mistakes I made were automatically stored in Wife 1.0's memory and could not be deleted. They then resurfaced months later when I had forgotten about them. Wife 1.0 also has an automatic Diary, Explorer and E-mail filter, and can, without warning, launch TurboStrop and Multi-Whinge. These latter products have no Help files, and I have to try to guess what the problem is.
Additional problems are that Wife 1.0 needs updating regularly, requiring ShoeShop Browser for new attachments and Hairstyle Express which needs to be reinstalled every other week. Also, when Wife 1.0 attaches itself to my Saab 93 Convertible hard drive, it often crashes.
Wife 1.0 also comes with an irritating pop-up called MotherInLaw, which
can't be turned off.
Recently I've been tempted to install Mistress 2005, but there could be problems. A friend of mine has alerted me to the fact that if Wife 1.0 detects Mistress 2005, it tends to delete MS Money before uninstalling itself.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
