Is quite common for algae eater to attack or stick to discus cos i see chasing around the tank and my poor 5"discus looks exhausted & stress. Do i need to separate them? Thks for your input.

I guess u referring to pleco? If yes, then pleco like to suck the slime on discus.. yum yum to them.
Not sure how to overcome this, let those has experience keeping pleco with discus to advise you accordingly.

Your problem actually quite common. What i usually do is that i will put a small piece of BH first for the pleco. Once the pleco start to eat...then i will put a couple more BH on the other side of the tank for my discus.
Certain type of pleco are unusually aggresive...e.g. high fin pleco.. leopard pleco... the common black pleco (50cents type) . And they grow big very quickly too.
I have started to use the albino pleco recently. They grow slower, less aggressive and so far i haven't seen any suck on my discus. :stick_out_tongue:
However they will cost you a bit more than the rest.

Some1 told me albino pleco wont go disturb discus but my albino pleco also alway go disturb my discus
so I try cut away the fin as told to make it swim slower but they will still go disturb the discus but speed a little slower.
& my pleco usually take action when I off the light. & the fin grow back very fast & I'll have 2 cut many time until I sian liao
so now I dun use any pleco liao. :confused_1:
But they also quite useful in cleaning tank lor.

Some ppl cut not only the tail but also the pectoral fins too to really slow the swimming speed down. But it seems very cruel to me....

Their fin grow back damn fast so I need 2 cut every few week & felt guilty everytime (:ick: My hand was shaking :ick:)
so I chose not 2 use pleco as they alway like 2 disturb my discus. :confused_1:

Sometimes when a pleco disturb the discus, you may need to change that pleco as it has acquired the taste for discus slime (yum yum). As a rule, big discus use small plecos, small discus use big plecos.
So far for my tanks the plecos and discus are living together harmoniously. Some of the tanks even got up to 3 plecos.

Maybe can share what I saw at one of the old bird's house
custom make a solid L shape glass( he use a 12 mm one)
when he dont need the pleco, simply chase it to one corner and use the L shape glass to form a smaller tank in your discus tank
so when u need the pleco for cleanup just open up the L shape glass.

Where got lions?
the most a leopard
If the pleco dont do the job,
and attack the discus
then change for another one lah
