Hi all bros,

My carps kena some kind of disease, cloudy eyes + skin flaking, and within one day half the total number of carps died! :crying: after i did a google search on what might cause this, i suspect it might be ick infection. the remaining carps are still weak and i expect more to die

have changed 50% of the water, added salt, and poured some copper sulphate (or potassium permanganate) solution to the water, and it seems that it is slowing down the death rate. wonder if any of u bros have any good solution. please provide your advice asap, as the carps are dying real fast!

You have done the right thing to do water change and add salt w copper sulphate.

Monitor and do another round of 20-30%water change after 2 or 3 days.

Meanwhile, clean up your filter.

Primarily due to poor water conditions. Its important to clean up the filter on weekly basis if u feed on daily basis.

If u seldom feed, u can clean your filter once a fortnight basis.

Well, ok, hmm....let me think. Did you clean the filter media at least once a month?

We normally clean the filter wool on weekly basis. And the filter media at least once a month.

bro mystique, i clean the filter media and wool every week, because the water gets dirty fast, i rinse them in a pail of the pond water (not tap water becos i don't want the chlorine in the tap water to kill the existing bacteria).

anyway, before i found out it was ich infection yesterday, i thought it was too much bacteria, so i started rinsing the wool with tap water. this morning when i found out it was ich infection, i poured in the copper sulphate solution. now the dying is slowing down, but the remaining carps are in quite bad condition, so i guess they can't make it for long. anyway, from now on, i just have to keep the water clean and add in copper sulphate solution diligently.

Hmm, normally we will throw the wool away every week. And start a fresh filter wool.

Meanwhile, wait after 2-3 days to do another round of water change. Keep up the medication til fish recovers.
