Hello everyone,

I'm keeping 3 goldfish (all cheapo). I love them anyway :)

There was a baterial attack in the tank (some cotton like substances on the fins) and I had used some sort of 'all mighty' medicine to heal the fish 2 weeks ago. After the medication, I changed water and cleaned the filter materials.

I thought they were fine until, today, I just found out that goldfish was carrying the same substances on the body.

The question is: how am I supposed to do to make sure the disease causing bateria are all cleared?

Is putting sea-salt help?

Please help,

MadMatt

Thanks man.

However, there's some fries in the same tank sharing the same water as well.

Can they take salt?

Hi,

Understand your difficult situation.

Theoritically, its advisable to replace all the filter media and wool with new ones should the fishes have recovered.

However, many do not follow pratically.

Would like to suggest the followings :

- switch off all filter pumps. Take all filter medias out and wash it and leave it for 2 days to dry up. This would kill all bacteior.

- Meanwhile, lower the tank water and place a means of air bubble tube to provide means of oxygen as the filter pump has been off. This is to allow sick fishes to recover properly as sick fishes cant resist much of water flow from the water pump.

- Place salt and or japanese yellow powder and or medication for fungal purpose found in aquarium shops and follow the manufacturer's instructions according to dosage levels. Medication helps to cure those infected fishes and protect unaffected fishes.

- Raise the temp to a moderate level of 30 C.

- Leave it for approximately 3 days and monitor the recovery. Do a water change of 20% and repeat the medication should the baterior presist.

- Use new filter wool and place the dried used filter media back into the filter compartment and operate the filter pupose as per original.

Hope it helps. And wish your fishes a speedy recovery.
