Congrats on your kkp keeping.

Here are some improvement suggestions:

- kkp are territorial and you will see several kkp trying to fight. One good method is to add long plastic plants, say about 5 pcs so that it will give them a cozy environment and they will tend to hide and play with each other such as pushing each other's chest. The plastic plants will add life to their playground and make them confident as well.

- I guess your tank is 3ft? and i could see you have about 12 kkp? That is abit overcrowded. Provided you do water change twice a week. This helps to reduce bioload and ammonia as kkp have a high rate of discharge.

Further tips on where to get cheap long plastic plants. Market price ranges $4-$8. Check out Rainbow Aquarian at Serangoon North as they are have clearance sale going at $1.80.

Good luck and happy keeping kkp! Should we have sufficient players on kkp, you could kick start a KKP League! & ill support you guys with IT support only.

Cheers!

Thanks brother for the valuable suggestions:

Ya, mine is 3-feet and in the progress of getting rid some of the "not-so-nice" BP..... will maintain around 8 pcs in the tank.

Bro, i think you need to make it fast as they grow quite fast. Furthermore yours is only 3ft tank, in term of fish already considered overcrowded and it will not good for the fishes.

agree better let them get use to the number of fishes in the tank when young,if not you will have a hard time as they grow.

nah...not true....take a look at the pics...same tank, same lightings....red will show red...yellow will show yellow....

even add black water or drift wood...only make red to be deeper red or yellow to be deeper yellow colour only......

anyway....the redder ones in your tank r nicer!!than those big mouth yellows!!

nah...i'm just a retiree with old methods...!!!:ick:

i do not use drift wood (as they like to scratch themselves) but some mineral rocks....!!

one pointer, as others mentioned, kkp got high discharge, not only i do water change to keep ammonia low, there is no means to have perfect water condition to maintain the kkp, thus i add copper safe occasionally (say once a fortnight) to rid off any potential parasite(which will surely happens to kkp).

This helps to keep my kkp healthy and more natural red colour ...!!

noted noted.

Yes, I also realise, the moment after I do my regular WC, the parrots's color will be more vibrant (more red). But as the day goes by, the color will drop. So may be due to the discharge and level of high ammonia. May be I should do weekly WC rather than twice a month.

btw, what kind of copper safe are u using?

u do WC twice a month , i feel is insufficient....as u see them eat alot...poo alot as well..just tat the poo disolves into the water...

at least try weekly WC as u hv so many in a tank...

try out ocean free copper safe....or u may try mardel copper safe...these two works well ...others i douno....

oh yes.... I think twice a month is insufficient. I will start weekly WC right away. Thanks for the advice.

Anything to take note once I start using coppersafe? Will weekly WC will help to get rid of the chemical effect of coppersafe?
