View Full Version : pH 4.5 to 5.8
I didn't know that I am keeping my arowana and tigers in a too acidic water until a friend got me a pH monitoring system (24/7). I am surprised that my fishes survived at this condition.
They look relatively fine with me, so contemplating whether to do something like increase the pH or just leave it like that since for 2 yrs (I guess) it has been like that.
Please advise bros/sis :embarrassed:

do u use coral chips to buffer the water, if yes, the pH should not dropped to that low, other contributing factor could be your dw.
I got maybe 2kg CC inside.
Last night I add more coral sand and buy pH+. Now since this morning pH is 7.0 :geeked:

Note that high pH dangerous for ammonia poisoning, meaning if your filtration is not strong enough then lower pH will be safer.
When nitrite not completely converted to nitrate, left over will dissolved in water becomes nitric acid and that is one reason why your pH goes down. Aerobic bacteria demand oxygen to decompose dissolved pollutants otherwise certain percentage dies and your filtration is still not optimised.

In order to maintain all time stablize ph, water management is essential and also not forgetting the filteration system play very important role here. Frequently check your water and filteration system helps to achieve optimistic result.
Thanks guys! so far pH is 6.5 to 6.7 :geeked:

Some info may be useful:
Why fine-air diffusers are so important?
'Aerobic' means 'requiring the presence of free oxygen'. Aerobic bacteria are like humans in that they require oxygen to survive and thrive. This is the primary difference between aerobic systems and septic systems, you see. Septic systems depend on much less efficient anaerobic bacteria.

Realise your aeration is perfectly set and that is why water is so good!
