I bought this front loading washing machine (Brandt) from Courts about 3-4 years back. Now it starts to give me problem liow, like the front part start to rust, and on the last cycle where it suppose to spin dry the clothes not working properly!
This is my first front loading WM, is it true that they are more prone to damages as compared to top loading one?? I suppose the front loading one has to work harder as it works against the gravity when it spins.
So, I think I might consider repair it or buy a new one, any good recommendation???

bro no point repairing. My Samsung gave me problems recently. I was told, transport already at least $25, labour plus parts, easily $150 and no guarantee when it will break down again. Nowadays, new washing machines are so cheap. Harvey Norman got sales now. Lots of Korean model are less than $300 and Japnese brand slight more. Pay another $50 for extended warranty to cover 5 years total coverage. Manufactureers usually give one year and Harvey and Courts will cover you another 4 years.
My experience in last two weeks. Samsung top load washing machinese which I bot three years ago at Harvey Norman with extended warranty. I paid $100 more for the extended warranty. I thought my extended warranty was for 3 years in total and that's why I went down again to Harvey Norman to shop for cheap and good washing mach.
Then the Sales man told me, Harvey Norman's extended warranty should be 5 years. He helped me to called the hotlines and they just need my IC or home address, right away they can tell me which model I bot, when and where I bot. I told them it is urgent, two weeks no washing machines to use. They came down the next morning and within 15 minutes, the washing machinese is up and running again.
The guy told my wife, nowadays, most of the washing machines are designed to last for around 3 years. So it's good to buy extended warraty. Like my case, that repair could easily cost $150 (transport, labor + parts). The extended warranty now is only $50 at Harvey Norman.

better is those vouchers from Harvey Norman or Courts. They can be used to offset the price directly. No point taking those vouchers like Robinson and etc, right?

Bro, I suggest you go to Suntec to compare the prices. Harvey Norman and Courts are at Tower 2, 2nd floor, then walk to Tower 3 to Carrefour, then walk to Millenium Walk, another bigger Harvey Norman.

All washing machine comes with function such as washing bedsheet cover, speed washing etc... depends on what you are washing, for mine if i choose to use spped washing, the water consumption is not that high also :)

Beside to take care of the washing machine to make sure that each time we dont overload the weight, if there is too many clothing to wash, best is to separate them.

went to Courts and Harvey Norman in Suntec over the weekend, record down the some top and front loading type, the salesman try to push me to buy Bosch brand, 6.5 kilo, 1099 + 200 Harvey Norman voucher, speed is 1000RPM. He said as the water usage in front loading one is less, so effectively 6.5 kgfront loading one is equivalent to 8 kg top loading one. Since I do lots of washing, I think it is worthwhile to get a bigger one, my maid told me she did at least two washings per day! Will look around somemore.

No matter what the salesman is trying to sell you .. forget about front loading machine as they tend to break down sooner than expected.
Been using front load for upteen years for European, Italy n Japanese brand and eventually they lasted only about 2 years before going bonkers.
For the past 3.5 years, i am using this LG top load washing machine (10Kg) and touch wood, so far no problems.
So maybe is luck but for sure I won't opt for a front loading machine anymore.
Just my 2 cts this morning.. :D

that is what i believe too, it is because we somehow tends to overload the machine, once u do that the front loader will go first cos it has to work against the gravity

Don't go can dcheck prices for too long as it could turn out to be false economy due to the time (excluding your family) spent searching forr the best price unless you want to see chio salegirl.
Also, the petrol as it is quite expensive depending on wether you are using top or medium grade one. Unless your employer pays for it. :D

actually it is not just to compare price but also to compare specs and design, see what is the latest technology in wm, u know there was one with water filter too and with ion charger or whatever they call it, and the drum is without holes one so it can minimise the mould from growing at the back of the drum and also it causes less damage to the clothes, the model is from Sharp

but expensive right? :(No point getting such a expensive washing machine if :-
1) User does not know how to take care of the machine;
2) User washing frequency is high (Suggest to get a bigger one which can wash more rather than go for the branded one, but cannot achieve such requirement);
3) Not user friendly
