Here is a example of a bad case of pop eye with HITH sickness.
This is to allow flowerhorn keepers to understand and able to judge how a flowerhorn is suffering from pop eye & HITH.
This fish is suffering HITH which is identified as those swell holes in-between the two eyes and its spreading all over the upper mouth.
Hence, its always better to understand how to identify the types of sickness and to ensure early treatment.

well how do u know a case of pop eye is going to develope? ever since looking at this picture i keep thinking my flowerhorn is about to develope a case because its eye pops out a lil (when hes looking at me at a certain angle) but its not white or anything like that. its still super red and that is a sign of healthy right?

This flowerhorn turns out bad was kept by a pro flowerhorn hobbyist. You will be surprised that despite the weekly clean water being maintained, you get such badly disease flowerhorn.
Check out the background of water. Its clear. But why this flowerhorn has bad pop eye and HITH?
The answer is, the pro hobbyist has too many flowerhorns. Partitioning many due to space constrain..hence, say out of 10 flowerhorns, you might get 1 or 2 having drop in form.
N partitioning flowerhorns are bad practice as you know flowerhorns are great eaters, which will lead to high ammonia output. Thus, water condition is important. Filter medias could not control overdose of ammonia.

ZZ has much protude eyes. Healthy zz eyes, are like what you described, super red and you will see a little black trim edges. At times, I still apply general aid as fish needs some medical cleaning on areas we cant tell from the naked eye.
Lastly, pop eye is where you will see the eye swell and bigger than its original state.
Slowly it will have a white coat over it.

This picture and case is a tricky one.
HOw will you cure this flowerhorn?
This flowehorn has two disease, pop eye & HITH.
Apply pop eye medication 1st?
or
Apply HITH medication 1st?

Back to this tricky situation. The owner cured the Pop Eye 1st as highlighed by SniperY how dangerous pop eye could cause. Upon curing the Pop Eye, naturally HITH will be reduced.
Then do medication for HITH to complete the whole process.
