Customs officers smash illegal cigarette store at Woodlands
SINGAPORE : Singapore customs officers smashed an illegal cigarette store and distribution point at Woodlands Street 13.
They arrested a 46-year-old Singaporean man in a covert operation following two weeks of surveillance and investigation.
He was believed to be the Singapore contact point of a Malaysian cigarette smuggling syndicate.
Police said the suspect admitted to renting the unit to receive and store contraband cigarettes for repacking and distribution.
A total of 12,700 packets of duty-unpaid cigarettes were seized from a rented unit on the ground floor of Marsiling Apartments.
The estimated market value amounts to S$114,300 and the total duty and GST payable is S$95,130.
