Dinamo Zagreb 0 Arsenal 3

The Gunners were missing a host of key first-team players such as Thierry Henry, Freddie Ljungberg and Jens Lehmann, with Ashley Cole and Jose Antonio Reyes also left out as they are expected to join Chelsea and Real Madrid respectively.

But it mattered not as Arsenal's class came to the fore in the first leg of the third qualifying round clash, which was goalless at the interval after the visitors had largely dominated.

Robin van Persie, Tomas Rosicky and Emmanuel Adebayor all spurned good first-half chances, while Manuel Almunia had to be alert to keep out long-range efforts from Marijan Buljat.

But after Eduardo's 50th-minute volley flashed inches wide, Arsene Wenger's troops took charge courtesy of Fabregas and van Persie.

The young Dutchman classily controlled a cross into the box on 63 and fed his Spanish team-mate, who crunched a volley into the net.

Alexander Hleb's superb throughball then released van Persie a minute later and he made it 2-0 with a left-footed piledriver.

Fabregas put the icing on the cake on 79 minutes when he drove into the 18-yard box and lashed a 16-yard strike past Ivan Turina to ensure Arsenal all-but qualified for the lucrative group stages ahead of a second leg at the Emirates Stadium.

Saha sinks Hoops, Gunners winTwo goals from Manchester United striker Louis Saha and a third from Ole Solskjaer gave the Red Devils a 3-2 win over Celtic in their Champions League match at Old Trafford on Wednesday night. Meanwhile, Arsenal opened their campaign with a 2-1 win over 10-man Hamburg, thanks to a wonder strike from Tomas Rosicky.
