Rooney boards the plane at Luton with Sven and David Beckham.

Wayne Rooney touched down in Germany with his England team-mates after another day of encouraging progress in his race to be fit for the World Cup. Rooney trained with Gary Neville and physios before flying from Luton Airport to the team's hotel near Baden-Baden.

what you guys think of Roodney chances to play in the WC???

BUHLERTAL, Germany, June 6 (Reuters) - Striker Wayne Rooney gave England's World Cup hopes a boost on Tuesday when he began a training session with the rest of the squad.

Rooney, who broke his foot on April 29, took part in the first 20 minutes of the session at their training base near Baden Baden, to the delight of coach Sven-Goran Eriksson.

The 20-year-old Manchester United forward then did a mixture of running, sprinting and ball work on his own with England fitness coach Ivan Carminati. Rooney will have a scan on his foot in Manchester on Wednesday.

'I think he looks very good,' Eriksson told a news conference as his team prepare for Saturday's Group B opener against Paraguay. They also face Trinidad and Tobago and Sweden in the group.

Eriksson, who has until 24 hours before that game to keep Rooney or replace him with standby Jermain Defoe, said he expected the scan result by Thursday morning at the latest.

'It's totally up to the surgeons, the specialists, the doctors and physios. I can't judge it,' he said.

'But I've always said I think he will be available, that he will take part in the World Cup. And I still believe it very, very strongly.'

Goalkeeper Paul Robinson was also buoyed by Rooney's presence, saying: 'He did the warmup today - he's been training with the physios for the last couple of days.

'Looking at him now, it's looking positive. It's gives us a boost obviously.'

However, Gary Neville warned against taking club mate Rooney for granted, having had a similar metatarsal injury which ruled the defender out of the 2002 World Cup.

'It's encouraging in one sense. But I have an experience in 2002 while I was in Manchester recuperating from my broken foot, it's not always how it appears.

'I was jogging prior to my scan and went to see the specialist thinking I would be given the go ahead to start training and was told I'd have to have an operation four days later.

'I hope that doesn't happen for Wayne - everyone wants him to take part in the World Cup. But until the surgeons have met tomorrow I don't think anybody will know for sure.

'The lad's had a broken foot, just leave him be. Let him rehabilitate, he'll be looked after by the right people.'

Left back Ashley Cole, nursing a hamstring problem that forced him off during the first half of Saturday's 6-0 friendly win over Jamaica, also worked separately from the squad.

Three players who missed Monday's session in England did their first workout in Germany - Neville, John Terry and David Beckham - though Beckham later sat out the training match.

Midfielder Steven Gerrard missed the final minutes of the session with a stiff back but Eriksson said it should not be a problem for Saturday.

As for Cole and Beckham, Eriksson said: 'Almost for sure they will be on the pitch tomorrow - full training. Fingers crossed, I can't see any problems for Saturday.'

It would mean the best fitness levels for Eriksson going into a tournament after the 2002 World Cup and Euro 2004.

'There's no doubt it,' Eriksson said. 'You can't compare it with Japan or Portugal. They are fit and they are much more confident than in the last tournaments.'

Wayne Rooney boarded a return flight to Baden-Baden on Wednesday night, seemingly given the all-clear to join England's World Cup campaign. While there was no official confirmation from either the Football Association or Manchester United, Rooney's smiles as he left the building for Manchester Airport, suggesting he will play.

SH reply

Press Statement: StarHub Explains Poor Signal Quality for RTM 1

Singapore, 9 June 2006 - The deterioration in the signal quality of RTM 1 since 7 June 2006 was caused when Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) began scrambling the satellite signal source that StarHub has been relying upon.

We have just confirmed that RTM has received instructions from Infront Sports & Media AG, the sports and media rights distributor for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, to encrypt its satellite source so that only viewers in Malaysia are able to receive access to the World Cup matches on RTM 1.

Therefore, StarHub had to revert to an antenna signal, which is the next best signal feed available to us. Although we have been carrying the channel free-of-charge via our cable network to households in Singapore, we do not control the quality of the RTM 1 signals received.

Aquarian
10-06-2006, 12:35 PM
My humble opinion

SH is a big company, (cannot get a proper antenna?) I guess they conveniently go to Sungei Road to buy second hand antenna for $2, that is why the signal is so poor. Singapore is just next to Malaysia not thousands of km away !!!

due to "face" issue, Germany cannot afford a draw. With Ballack's back, should be able to beat Ecuador.

Group A - Germany and Ecuador thru, Costa Rico and Poland out

Group B - England is thru, Sweden needs a draw with England to go through, Trinidad can only go thru if Sweden lost to England and they beat Paraguay with better goal difference. Paraguay is out.

Group C - Argentine and Holland are thru, Ivory Coast and Serbia out.

Group D - Portugal is thru. Mexico needs only a draw with Portugal to go through if Angola wins, Angola can only go thru if Mexico lost to Portugal and they beat Iran with better goal difference. Iran is out.

Group E - Most interesting group, mathematically all teams can still qualify for the next round. So, it is really a decision time to choose which game to watch!!

Group F - Another interesting group, Brazil is thru. The rest of the three teams still can make it thru mathematically. Japan with an uphill task while Australia just need a draw to get thru if Japan lost.

FA confirm Owen is ruled out
Michael OwenMichael Owen's World Cup is over after he was ruled out for the remainder of the tournament in Germany.

Owen could be out of action for up to five months after the England striker reportedly suffered cruciate ligament damage against Sweden.

The Football Association has confirmed the Newcastle player is on his way home from the England team's base in Germany.

Owen injured his right knee during the first minute of England's 2-2 draw against Sweden in Cologne and flew back to the team hotel in Baden-Baden ahead of an MRI scan this morning at the Max Grundig hospital at Buhlertal.

The 26-year-old missed the second half of last season with a metatarsal injury and Sky Sports reported this morning that he will now be out of action for a further five months.

Owen's England team-mates Rio Ferdinand and Gary Neville were also at the clinic for scans, Ferdinand on a groin injury he picked up in the Sweden game an Neville on the calf problem which has kept him out of the last two matches against Trinidad and Tobago and Sweden.

England must be laughing in their heart, two players got sent off and Ronaldo is injured, their strength will be greatly affected. I pity Holland tried so hard and definitely on the upper hand but still lost
