Rules & Regulations
All participants shall abide by the Rules and Regulations stated herein. Participants or their entries found in violation of any of the Rules and Regulations may be disqualified, at the sole discretion of the judges.
1. This competition is open to all.
2. There are a total of 41 classes (in 5 categories) in this competition (Please refer to the Entry Form for more details).
3. Each entry shall consist of 1 betta splendens. A non-refundable entry fee of $18 shall be charged for each entry. All entry forms shall be accompanied by cheque/cash payment in full. Participants shall be allowed to submit a maximum of 5 entries per class (e.g. A1, A2, B1, B2, etc).
4. Each betta splendens entry must be at least 3.5cm in body length, measured from the tip of the mouth to the end of the caudal peduncle (i.e. not including the caudal fin). Entries below the minimum size shall be disqualified.
5. In the event of overwhelming number of entries and limited display space, the organizers reserve the right to limit a participant to a maximum of 1 entry per class, to encourage more participation from hobbyists and breeders. Unsuccessful applicants shall be informed at least 3 days prior to the competition date and fees will be refunded.
6. The organisers reserve the right to re-classify entries in the event of wrong entry for any class/category. However, after benching in, fish found in the wrong class/category may be disqualified at the discretion of the judges and organisers.
7. In any event where each individual classes have not enough entries, organisers shall merge the classes together (eg. Red plakat and Black plakat, Non red and White/light body metallic CT).
8. Each entry will be housed in a standard tank i.e. a clear new PET container with (provided by organizers) to be filled with water that has been aged for at least 24 hours. Participants may also bring their own water and/or PET containers with the same dimensions. The organizers reserve the right to require participants to change to the PET containers provided should the participant’s PET container not meet the required standards.
9. The organisers will exercise reasonable efforts to look after all entries throughout the duration of the competition. However, the organisers shall not be held responsible for any injury, loss, illness or mortality of entries.
10. Fishes shall not be fed during the competition period except at times specified by the organisers.
11. Once the entries are accepted and displayed at the competition site, participants will not be allowed to remove any entries from the tanks, unless prior approval has been obtained from the organisers.
12. Colored medications or water conditioners are not allowed to be used. If medications or water conditioners are used, they must be colorless.
13. No stickers, labels or other forms of identification (other than those applied by the organisers) will be allowed on the competition tanks or racks.
14. The closing date for all entries shall be 26th May 2008.
15. All entries shall be benched-in at the competition venue on 30th May 2008, from 5 pm to 8 pm.
16. In this competition, the following General Judging Criteria will be used:
a. Finnage
b. Color
c. Form
d. Condition
e. Deportment
17. Judging shall be based on the condition of the fish at the time of judging. The organisers reserve the right to disqualify entries if any of the following is observed: deformed or unhealthy looking fish.
18. Judging shall take place on 31st May 2008 from 8am, by a panel of invited judges. The decision of the judges shall be final and binding and no further correspondence shall be entertained.
19. After the judging is completed and the results posted, any mistakes found should be made known to the organisers immediately. Results are not final and official until posted by the organisers.
20. During the judging, no one is allowed in the show arena except for helpers and Judges. After judging is completed, only participants can enter and seek the judges' opinions on the placings etc. After all is done, the competition is then open to the public for viewing
21. Trophies will be awarded to the first, second and third prize winners for each class, each category and the Grand Champion. In addition, trophies will be awarded to a category champion from the Halfmoon, Crowntail and Plakat will be selected and awarded. The Grand Champion Betta shall be selected from the 3 category champions.
22. Participants shall collect their fish from the competition venue on the evening of 1st June 2008, Sunday (exact time for collection will be made known to participants in due course). The organisers reserve the right to dispose of unclaimed fish in any fashion it sees fit.
23. The organisers shall be the sole authority for the interpretation of these Rules & Regulations. Once a ruling has been determined, the organizers shall not entertain any further disputes on the same matter.
24. The sale of any competition fish shall be handled by the organisers. Please indicate on your entry form if you would like to sell your fish, and the sale price. Organisers will levy a sales commission of 25% on the final sales price.
