Dont think that discus can be flowerhorn's tankmate
cos flowerhorn will attack discus
also dont think flowerhorn can withstand everyday water change

Yeah
I saw that thread
but I still think that in order for them(discus) to grow fast
beside feeding and water changing play a part
prevent them from stress is a big factor too

actually, I tried out my discus to adapt to weekly WC and filteration system same as my flowerhorns.

My discus was living well for 1.5 yrs.

Done my 1st part ie making my discus with normal OHF system with weekly water change. ofc no pumping, but only pump when i do a WC.

Have not mix these discus with my flowerhorns..hehe:big_smile:

Haha...well for me, I'm not a real discus groomer and rather let them grow naturally then to pump them up the fastest way. I feel that if I want to comm a LH together with my discus, the main focus/theme is still the FH. I will only pump the discus only if they are in species alone tank. Btw, my discus will not let the flowerhorn get in their way when I throw beefheart in:stick_out_tongue:

I would say conditioning the discus to live in a matured water tank is possible and that would also make them more stabalize to various water condition. Just like a newly imported Altums...people tends not to change the water at all and just let the PH to whack all the way down to 3-4. I know of people who chage water every 2 days for their altums..so it all boils down to conditioning:geeked:

Nice to hear that your discus are doing ok and 1.5 yrs is no joke. When can I see your post of them?

Sadly, I have overhauled all my setups recently as I'm heavily addicted to plecos!, yah! All flowerhorns in house had been transfered to my office and now, discus with plecos! Here's a couple of shots..

yes, mastered keeping discus just OHF with weekly WC. Already passed it to a relative, old man to keep as i'm into kkp.

btw looking at your discus with plecos. I experience plecos tend to be firece at the later stages and will attack the discus. Sometimes even suck their body.

Thats why I ended up taking a "cleaner pleco" out and only place him 1 day b4 i do WC.

I never raised any thing with my discus. I found that they would get sick with other fish in the same tank. and yes older plecos will try to suck on the bodys of the discus. that was the other reason I never kept other fish in with them. and I was breeding them in the mid 70s had the marlboro and the pigeon bloods. they did really well with wisconsin water. I had 7 of them in 100 gal tank.
