View Full Version : My pH Pen

When clearing my fishy stuff yesterday, realised I have one pH pen never used for quite sometimes.
Opened up the cover, saw lots of black particles accumulated around the bottom tubes. Used the tap water to clean it but still some left behind. Wonder will that affect the reading of the pH?
I tested with two tanks, both readings are 7.0 and 6.7 but when I tested with tap water, the reading was 7.7. Any problem with the reading? Looks like inaccurate.
May be time to calibrate again :(

Better to re calibrate and remember to keep the "tip" moist.
Cheers.

I put some "tank water" to keep it moist.:)

oh yah, the buffer solution for calibrating right?
What should I buy now? Any particular brand. Or I just need to tell the LFS, buffer solution for pH calibrating?

Just the normal 7.0pH buffer solution available from the shelf can liao.

Yeap, but that time only one tank so maintain the pH all the way. Also, I dun test tap water pH so be it.:D

i remember I bot a small pack before, then threw away after calibrating. Is that a bottle type?

Last time I bot from C328 is bottle type. Now, I dun know they sell or not. You may try Polyart if you are in the West area in Singapore.

bot a bottle of pH buffer solution for $5 at Petmart last night. Calibrate to 7 and use the same solution to keep the "tips" wet :D

So did you test your tank water and tap water?:D

oh shit, forgot about that.
So I must make sure when I test on tap water, the reading should be 7 right?

don't assume that tap water should be 7 cos it isn't

then how should I ensure my pH reading is accurate after calibrating? or how do I know whether I have done the correct calibrating?

i tested with tap water last night, the reading is either 7 or 7.1. Is that reasonable?

For your info, pH in Jurong West is 7.7 and Tampines is 7.6 and Sembawang is 8.2.

Too high liao. As far as I know 8.2 regarded as the "max" in PUB. Of course there are some case in exception.:)

Those black particles reside at the probe delay pen response so you need to hold it at least more than 10-20 sec to get a proper reading. 7.1 is too low confirm your calibration is not right. PUB spec tap water is within 7-9 means that wherever lower than 7 or higher than 9 should make noise. :stick_out_tongue:
If test on marigold HL milk or Yeo's soya beam, reading should be 6.6~6.7 if you want to double confirm. Your area tapwater should be about 7.7
