As mention before, many ppl who are new to the discus hobby, make the worst sin in discus keeping. Lots of ppl just dump new fishes into old tanks and expect to enjoy the hobby. When the fishes get slime, they will say that discus are very hard to keep and completely avoid the hobby.

Some ppl tell me for QT , 1 day is sufficient, some ppl even up to 2 months

Lets share about how would you carry out QT, and what if you dun have an extra tank to do QT?

I kick off first....

1) age water at least 1 day in a clean tank without any filtration system, only an air tube.
2) new fishes are dump into the tank
3) add acriflavine solution till its light yellow. (or you can use general aid)
4) add 2 Soup spoon full of rock salt for 1 spoon for 2 ft tank, 3 ft tank, 3 spoon for 4 ft tank.
5) no feeding for the next 2 days. On the third day, either small amount of BH or a cube of frozen blood worms.
6) After 3rd day, water is change 30% with the acriflavine replaced

This is done for about 9 days to ensure all parasites die off as i am very kia su and kia si.

Next....

Just observe the fishes for the next 7 days. Should the fishes start to turn black, add in acriflavine and salt.

If the fishes are very skinny, deworming them would be good.
Just a caution that new fishes usually do not eat immediately and the hobbyist should not panic and start to do deworming. A temperature of 30C usually would encourage the discus to eat again.

If i don't have an extra tank to do QT, worst case i would carry out the above with the fish in pail.

As for my method... I practise no med unless fish is sick...

1) Dip fish bag in the prepared tank water for about 1hr...
2) Open fish bag and slowly add a cup of tank water into bag every 15 mins...
3) After 1hr.. Dump fish into tank without pouring water from the bag into the tank..
4) Water change daily and feeding as per normal... Observe them for the next 3 weeks and act accordingly... :D

Well, you can always steal the "Ng yoke chwee" for cuts from your family medicine box.
That one is acriflavine.

I just put new fish in separate tank alone for 2-4 weeks and observe any abnormal behaviour.
