Many hobbyists tend to pamper their discus by asking family members/friends or somebody who know nothing about discus feeding and look after them while they are outstation. The solution is simple : Try not to feed during your absence. If it is a short 10 days trip, these are some tips :

1.) 2 days before the trip stop feeding
2.) 1 day before the trip, clean the tank thoroughly and make 100% water change
3.) Add in acriflavine, long bath as general application.
4.) Ensure the aeration is in good working condition
5.) For nursing brooders, 24 hours water drip is recommended. Ensure that the sodium thiosulphate stock solution attached to the municipal water is sufficient to last more than 10 days.
6.) If there are only a few tanksī, it is advisable to run 24 h water drip for all if possible. Check your dosing pump is in good working condition
7.) Do not feed at all. But if your trip lasts more than 10 days, let your friends to feed once or twice over that period and in very small quantitiy. The feed recommended to use is dry feed, which does not foul the water easily.

For single who stay alone in appartment, you still need your friends to come regularly to check your filter sytem, aeration, heater, lighting, etc during your absence. If not and in case that your systems breakdown. Donīt be surprise to see your deary fish get posted in our Fish-Loss Hub after you come back from holiday......:D
