Breeding formulas and their secrecy are mentioned since the time man bred hybrid fish. Interestingly; many a beautiful strain has been lost because the breeding lines were severed when a specific breeder fish died or when inbreeding caused genetic line degeneration. Think if there was a "formula" or records of how strain creators got there; then the original breeders would have succeeded in recovering the strain... but this is not so. Looks like in hybrid fish breeding, the only way is forward and ever changing.
Today's hybrid fish appear the result of knowing what works (and doesn't) to avoid mistakes, good eye selecting parents, and the breeder functional experimental experience guiding his steps. Good luck helps too!
With so many sources and strains of hybrid ZZs, KMLs, RTs, Kamfas, and their mixes; think even having a complicated "formula" would not offer solution unless you also had access to same genetic strain lines.
What do you brothers think? Do breeders really have hybrid fish breeding "formulas" that can be used to recreate strains or breed a specific type of fish? Thank you!

most of the top breeders are not going to give up the top breeding stock till they used it up. ( thats why they have the top of line of high grade fish.)
also when they do breed there fish. they will keep the top percent and then try to sell off the lower grade. we all would do it when breeding fish.
I don't mean to say this in a bad way. it just the truth.
as for a Formula. I would think some of the top top breeders must have records of what they have tried in the past to produce the next generation of fish.
also when breeding offsprings back to the parents to enhance there traits. I would think there would be times when breeding becomes more difficult.
( not all fish will breed with other fish )
and I do agree with meng

Hi Mentat,
I remembered once i mentioned ill need to search from my old files on info regarding on the breeding formulas...
I hv just found the info and hope it helps for future reference.
The formula is called Mendel's theory of fomulas whereby :
WW x WW = WW WW WW WW
BB x WW = BW BW BW BW BW
BW x BW = BB BW BW WW
BB x BW = BB BB BW BW
WW x BW = WW WW BW BW
BB x BB = BB BB BB BB
Thus, u hv to ensure the parentage of WW & BB to see what u will get from the resultants of BW & BB & WW
:yeah wink:
