I think the very best Arsenal can proceed to in the CL is the last 16s and would be a real surprise to the last 4, :)

But anything can happen in soccer. Right?

Look at Liverpool lost in their home ground.

Barcelona are in pole position to qualify for the Champions League final after a second-half strike from Ludovic Giuly gave them victory at the San Siro. Barca claimed a crucial away goal - and eventually a first-leg advantage - after Ronaldinho prised open the Milan defence in the 57th minute for Giuly to fire past Dida.

Villarreal rest key players
MADRID - Villarreal coach Manuel Pellegrini had one eye fixed on next week's Champions League semi-final return against Arsenal when he called up a weakened squad for Saturday's Primera Liga match against Real Sociedad.
"Obviously it is a different line-up from usual but we have an important game on Tuesday," Pellegrini told a news conference.

"I have always said we cannot lose our focus on the league because of the Champions League.

"But we have now reached a point where we are only one game from the final, and we are only 1-0 down, so we are giving this game the priority."

First-team regulars Juan Roman Riquelme, Marcos Senna, Juan Pablo Sorin, Rodolfo Arruabarrena and goalkeeper Mariano Barbosa were all rested.

A further six were put on the injury list -- Quique Alvarez, Alessio Tacchinardi, Josico, Jose Mari, Juan Manuel Pena and Gonzalo Rodriguez.

Villarreal are eighth in the Primera Liga, four points short of the UEFA Cup places, with five games remaining.

"I am confident we can win the three points to get closer to the UEFA Cup places, and I am also convinced we can make it to the Champions League final," Pellegrini added.

The spirit of Liverpool comeback inspired Barca: Eto'o Thursday • May 18, 2006 PARIS

Samuel Eto'o said Barcelona had drawn inspiration from Liverpool to come from behind and beat Arsenal 2-1 to claim the Champions League title last night.

The Cameroon attacker, picked as man of the match, scored the second half equaliser, with Juliano Belletti netting the winner after Arsenal, reduced to 10 men, had taken a 37th minute lead.

"We never thought the game was lost," insisted Eto'o.

"After having seen what Liverpool did last year we told ourselves not to throw in the towel.

"We followed Liverpool's example."

Liverpool staged the most remarkable comeback in the competition's history when fighting back from 3-0 down at half-time against AC Milan in Istanbul last year to force the game into extra time and then win on penalties.

"In the final you can't doubt yourselves," Eto'o added. "The final's played right up to the last whistle. We covered ourselves in the spirit of Liverpool."

Eto'o then tried to sum up what it meant for Barcelona to leave the Stade de France with the European crown tucked under their arms.

"It's incredible. There's no other word to describe it. In a few years, my son, I'll be able to tell him: we won the Champions League and I scored my team's equaliser.

"Tonight is for Barcelona, not for Ronaldinho, Belletti or Eto'o — it's a collective success." — AFP
