For me i just left it on, so that the water tempeature always maintain the same and it does not stress the fish. Correct me if i'm wrong

Last time when I keep discus I did as what SniperY did, using the heater at about 27-28degrees to maintain constant temperature and when the discus is sick then will raise slightly above to 30degrees.

Actually no right or wrong in using heater in maintaining the water temperature of the fish tank. I tried both method and i don't see any difference. The only difference is "more work" to me, why?
1) Water change - the water temperature from the tap is cooler. Hence I have to switch off the heater in the morning to let the water in the fish tank to coo off. Then WC in the evening. More work
2) Electricity bill - no need to explain further. More work (work harder to earn money to pay the bill)
3) Weather change - If your discus already subject to "comfort temperature", during raining season, when weather turn cold, fish tend to get sick more easily. Especially water change.
No right or wrong, just my 2 cents worth of observation.

yes, agree, i have a few heaters but set at very low temperature, it only helps when i change water and the temp is too low, as i like to change it at nite, so it helps to increase the temperature a bit faster, that's all.
The other thing is try to avoid China brand heater, if the thermostat is faulty you can boil your fish.

Me same as Edward. I don't used heater any more even it is sick. However, using of heater will helps to improve the healing process when you use the correct medication. However, with S'pore wealther I don't think it is neccessary.

I use heater, ´cause my discus aquarium is in aircon room. I personally think use heater is better to provide constant temperature & avoid stress.

Yes properly you will need it since your aquarium is in the airconditional condition. Just like in those western or European country during their winter time. It is real cold. Heater is for sure needed.
Just curious, your aquarium is in airconditional turning on 24 hours daily in your room? Sorry to ask you such a question as it is out of curiousity.

Hi, bro cpj & aquarian.....my aquarium is in my master bedroom....near toilet... .Of course, not aircon for 24 h. Only if I'm at home. Morning till late afternoon, a/c is turned off. So to avoid large temperature fluctuation, I have to use heater 24 h.

I am sure during the evening you will turn on your room aircon only and you can turn on the heater. Or alternatively you can buy digital a timer to set the time in the evening to turn it on and off it in the morning. This will for sure help to preserve some electrical bill. How many feet tank is in your room and what is the heater wattage?
no need heater...
Expert advice.

Correct me if I've made the wrong assumption.. :hmmm:You are right, because due to my work, i can only do the WC during night time, therefore to prevent the temperature different from the water in the tank, therefore i switch it on after WC.

from my experience, if you change water at night, the water temperature would be higher since in the afternoon, the water tank up in the block has already been heated up.
You can check it out when you do WC
