Another point to ponder. How many of us actually like to purchase adult fishes? Some hobbist like to purchase juv and see them grow. While some wouldn't mind paying more to get adult specimens to enjoy their full grown glory. What's your take on this?

I like to buy fishes Juv stage with following reasons :
1) Initially is due to budget constraint, but later it become a challenge to me. The fishes more fragile during their Juv stage. So It become a challenge and it also help me to gain valuable experience.
2) Secondly, as old man say "Groom from beginning". So it become another challenge and experience to me on how to groom a fish. Of course, not for competition, but for the sense of achievement.
I too, like Bro Oscar... Perfer getting discus in the Juv stage..
Apart from all the challenges..
I like to take photos and watch their growing stages...

That is veyr interesting too. A great sense of achievement when you take out a set of photos showing a particular fish from it's juv stage till it matures. Maybe i should start doing that now.

I rather prefer to say more on budget. If budget permitted, of course get adult fish wiser.
Return on value wise, Juv fish have lower return due to higher risk. Your investment might wipe off just over a night. On top of that, the Juv fish might not performe as per what you wish. Whereas adult fish is stronger and lesser risk in whipe off. And also can see the instant return - the fish performance and breeding.
Both of them give you difference way of enjoyment.
"Not the matter of the fish (Performance, price) , is the matter how much you enjoy them". You can have a fish worth thousand of dollars, but meaningless if you don't know how to appreciate and you don't enjoy them. I have tanks of junk fishes, but I am happy to see them - Priceless.
Well said there Bro Oscar....
Bro Heckel,
Yes.. Its really enjoying to see the result of your hard work thru photos of their growing stages... Especially when you see spots joining into lines or lines breaking into spots... Or even improvement in terms of shape and size..

no preference for me, as long as i like the breed, i'll buy.
i'll buy adults if the price is not too steep. lets say if u buy 20 juve for $5 ea.
that's $100 and if the adult is ard that price just get the adult.
but many a times ppl only sell juve so not much choice there.

Maybe should i say when we buy fish, we need to know the purpose. If we wan to breed a particular strain, most likely we will buy adult fishes. Me for one cannot stand the wait for another 12 months or so.
