I always like heckels (refering to the real fish and not bro heckel just in case) . Always thought that they are hard to keep due to the fish caught wild. However recently heard the opp !!!

Personally i find the heckels are much more hardy than our domesticated discus. They can withstand extreme water parameters. Gone are the days where wild fishes are difficult to keep. Maybe becos of the improvements in the transportation from wild to our tanks.

It depends on wild caught or tank breed heckel.

Aquarian

agreed, like frontosa, even the so called wild caught might not really be wild caught directly from the lake

Feeding them BW will not make them bulky. My experience is that when i feed bw to my heckels previously they will lose their body mass and not grow much.

Feeding them BW will not make them bulky. My experience is that when i feed bw to my heckels previously they will lose their body mass and not grow much. The main reason why i only feed them bw because i dont have time to do wc everyday, in order not to mess up the water, so i feed them bw only. Since both you and bro Aquarian given me the same advise, i might look into this and feed them BH. Thanks!

You can feed BH in small amounts. And do water change every other day. Should still be ok. Or you can siphon out the waste material and leftover food everyday. This will encourage better growth.
Previously i change water for the planted only once a week. I feed a combi of BH and BW.

won't that mess up your planted tank, cos the discus will peck at the food and out come your plant

Actually i have a special platform lower during feeding time. Basically is a wash basin with all the BH in it lower into the water level. All the heckels will swim into the platform to have their meal and after that i will remove the platform till the next feeding time.
Very back breaking work doing that but when you wan the best of both worlds no choice but to do it.

Yup have to think of ways to make our hobby more interesting and also save some money along the way.
Initially i was thinking of lowering a 2ft tank as feeding chamber then remove the 2ft tank after feeding. But the thought of having to carry the 2ft tank in and out puts me off.
