Gymnocorymbus ternetzi (Skirt Tetra)
Class: Actinopterygii (ray-finned fishes)
Order: Characiformes (characins, hatchetfishes)
Family: Characidae
Scientific Name: Gymnocorymbus ternetzi

Temperament: peaceful, can be a bit nippy at times, if not kept in a large enough school, but it is a rarity in my experience.
Sexing:
Breeding:
Special Care:
Other Comments: an extremely hardy fish, excelent for beginners as they are very tolerant. Males and females can be told apart by the females generally more plump appearance, and the anal fin. In the female the anal fin is narrower and the front edge runs parallel with the second vertical line, the males anal fin is slightly wider, and the front edge slants back towards the tail. This is the natural colour form of Gymnocorymbus ternetzi there are also white skirt, blushing, long fin and painted varieties. the painted variety are normally sold as 'painted white skirt tetras' 'mixed fruit tetras' and 'blueberry, strawberry, etc. tetras' they are NOT injected with tye, they are fed dye filled foods which slowly colours them over time. the paintd varieties will eventually lose the colour, but overall I find them to be just as healthy and robust as the natural variety.
