Frankly speaking discus should be kept by themselves. But if you are really interested to keep them with other fishes, corys and tetras will be fine. Anything that is too fast will spooked the discus out. Unless you keep many discus together with the tankmates.

I have seen goldfish kept together with discus before. But it actually boils down to how bold the discus is. Goldfish will swim all over the place and disturb the discus.
Also when you wan to mix discus with other types of fishes, it is best to QT all the fishes before adding them together. Normally the discus will not do well when mixed with other types of more outgoing fishes.

lei,
that's the thing, goldfish will snatch the food so the discus will learn
to fight for the food, and since they are faster than the goldfish
they dun lose out.

Even so, the fastest speed for discus to snatch the food is like medium speed for goldfish. Moreover, goldfish per mouth capacity is more than discus.
